The Warrior Bride: as Gatekeeper Part 2

The loving Bridegroom has wooed the Warrior Bride! She is His! She is mentoring with King, and she is gaining strength in the Spirit. Mistakes have been made, but her faithful Bridegroom has saved her, picked her back up, and pointed her in the better direction. He is so faithful to her! She hasn’t given up; no, she will never give up on her first love no matter how difficult it may seem. She is an overcomer!

As she gains new strength in the Spirit, the Bridegroom-King speaks this new mantle of responsibility over her. Gatekeeping. She may feel it’s new, but in fact, it isn’t new. The warrior Bride as Gatekeeper in the Spirit-– It sounds daunting, but every Christian has a role to play.

This new mantle of responsibility is one relating to taking dominion in this earth. A task He has asked that the Church enforce since He left it. What is it and what does the Warrior Bride as Gatekeeper in the Spirit look like? How do we enforce it?

Let’s look at this task a little closer together. Keep in mind this is just an overview of what it can mean. The important thing for all of us to do is be prayerful, prepared, and listen for the King as He reveals more to us to take action on. With every passing day we are stepping into our finest hour as the Bride of Christ!

“My Church, you are the Gatekeeper.”

These were the words the Lord spoke to me personally as He was teaching me about what He wanted the Warrior Bride to be doing. We as His partner, are working to prepare the world for His coming. This assignment is so large and has so many facets to it. It simply cannot be left to only a few discerning individuals. It must be every one of us.

Teaching about gatekeepers isn’t something that many of us have heard much about or understand as it relates to the spiritual realm. When the Lord spoke this statement to me, I knew it was just another one of those things He gives me where one word could contain volumes. While I’m sure this subject probably does as well, I simply wanted to get to the bottom of it. In case you missed part 1 of this prophetic word, it can be found here!

What is this job that He is asking the Church to do? I thought I knew, but I know from experience that what I think I know and what the true facts are can sometimes differ by a large margin. As I dove into it, a clearer picture began to emerge. I began to feel inspired to take more action in my own sphere of influence.

In this post, we will define what spiritual gates are, who the gatekeepers are, what their duties look like, and why all this is significant. I pray that it stirs something within you, too, to take more action in your sphere of influence.

As the Church, we are His body and we belong to Him. If the Body is not obeying the head what good are we to Him? Let’s rise to the occasion, Church. Indeed, we have a planet to exert dominion upon, until our Mighty King of Glory comes for us!

What are Gates?

Gates were and are openings. Plain and simple. It can be as simple as that or we can consider it a legal access point. It is a place where one enters and exits, a place of control, power, authority, or access. This access to what is inside may subsequently be allowed or denied. The theme here is security.

What are gates?

Besides being part of a city’s protection against invaders, city gates were also places of central activity in biblical days. It was at the city gates that important business transactions were made, court was convened, and public announcements were spoken. The Bible frequently speaks of “sitting in the gate” or of the activities that took place at the gate.

Gates are also portals. (Gen 28:12) To control the gates of one’s enemies was to conquer their city. Part of Abraham’s blessing from the Lord was the promise that “your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies” (Genesis 22:17).

Who Were the Gatekeepers in the Bible?

Gatekeepers were a very important part of a city’s security in ancient times. They are actually mentioned often in Scripture as guards placed at various kinds of gates for protection. They may be city gates, palace gates, or temple gates. In Biblical times, many cities had these high stone walls surrounding the city to help keep out invading armies and to protect against wild animals. (Joshua 7:5; Judges 5:8; Nehemiah 12:30).

Gatekeepers had the responsibility of being on guard and alert for the first signs of trouble. Can you imagine if the gatekeepers weren’t trustworthy? To say that they were key to the security of a city is an understatement! These gates that were manned were literally the only exits or entrances to a city.

Heaven and Hell Both Have Gates

The Bible mentions gates and gatekeepers often. Heaven and hell both have gates:

“Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name.” Psalm 100:4 AMP

“And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades (death) will not overpower it [by preventing the resurrection of the Christ]. 19I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18 AMP

This comment regarding the “gates of hell” means the authorities of hell. This scripture actually designates what the authorities of hell may or may not do: They ARE NOT PERMITTED to hinder the progress of the Church.

There is security inside the gates of a stronghold or city and guarding them is vital to the overall control of the stronghold. Allowing a demon at the gates in heaven and allowing an angel at the gate of hell is compromising the purpose of their respective strongholds.

We take every thought captive!

What is God Saying? How is the Church the Gatekeeper?

When Christ left this world, He left us with the task of taking authority and dominion over the earth and specifically, over the works of the devil. He already won our dominion and authority back on the cross when He died. (One of many things He died for!) He took back the power of death and hell.

When He did this, He then gave us, the Church, this authority and dominion. This was the same dominion that was originally given to Adam, but He gave it to the devil in the garden when He sinned.

What we have just discussed from the Biblical days was a physical truth or fact representing a spiritual truth or fact. Christ intends for His Church to exert dominion on this earth to overcome the power of hell. He already has done everything necessary to conquer the devil. He won’t be doing anymore. It is our responsibility. All the Church has to do is step into that authority and take dominion until He comes back for us.

The Spiritual Realm is Very Real

In Genesis 28:12, we see Jacob visualizing the famous ladder as he slept.

“Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” Genesis 28:12 AMP

A spiritual world exists just like the physical world, but it is invisible to the natural eyes. A portal (or gate) is as an entry point or exit point into another realm or dimension. It’s a connection between the natural and supernatural. The spiritual realm which the ordinary eyes cannot see includes the divine dimension and the demonic dimension.

Whether it is acknowledged or not, there is a very active spiritual realm. We like to believe in angels. That makes us feel good, protected, and comforted. However, the ugly side is that the demonic is also very real.

Many Christians fear demons and do not want to have anything to do with them—and we shouldn’t. That is, to be fascinated by them. We should take authority over them. However, we need to know that we shouldn’t fear what Jesus has already conquered!

Many people fear demons.

It’s Time to Take a Stand

Demons won’t ‘play nice’ if we don’t acknowledge them or ignore them. They are happy to steal, kill, and destroy you and your precious family up one side and down another; killing you (and your family) if they can. (If you allow them to). That pleases them. So, if the Church won’t do her part to keep them under control, how can evil be put under authority? It cannot. It runs amok.

We as the Church, cannot simply sit here waiting and hoping for Jesus to come back and save us from what we let get out of our hands. The Warrior Bride walks with victory, in victory, and from victory! The Church reflects Christ! We don’t cower in fear because we don’t know what to do.

We have many things at our disposal today. It’s time to learn. It’s time to take our stand. Our Precious leader is calling us to do so. Prepare yourself, Church. If ever there was a time to learn, it’s NOW!

Maturity Must be Pursued = God Won’t do it for Us

Now that we know about gates, who the gatekeepers were, a little about how they functioned, and a little about the importance of the spiritual realm, let’s revisit the whole gate idea again. Can you see into the Spirit to spot a gate or portal? All of us know someone or may have heard of someone who could. Many Christians would say no to this question.

God gives this gifting to certain individuals in enhanced ways, but generally, we all, as the Church and God’s beloved, redeemed children, should have some connection in the Spirit. Whether by seeing pictures in prayer, spiritual discernment, or just a feeling of unease around certain people or certain situations.

If that is not you, please pray and study the Word of God. God will impart this to you–and you probably have it already in some capacity and don’t know it. Spiritual senses must be exercised to become strong. Hebrews 5:14 TPT tells us what mature believers do:

“But solid food is for the mature, whose spiritual senses perceive heavenly matters. And they have been adequately trained by what they’ve experienced to emerge with understanding of the difference between what is truly excellent and what is evil and harmful.” Hebrews 5:14 TPT

Be Willing to Get Your Hands Dirty = Push to Learn

Notice the individuals mentioned in these verses have trained themselves. This implies that they know, learn, and are trained in it because they have taken the action to do so. It is our responsibility to train ourselves.

The word of God is our battle manual. We must dig. Digging isn’t always easy, I will testify there, but walking in obedience sometimes requires a sacrifice of ourselves in order to stay there.

Sometimes, that means we have to run to the action. It may not mean getting into a huge spiritual skirmish we don’t know how to handle; it might just mean taking action in other simpler ways. I will discuss these in just a few minutes. First, I want to mention this. The enemy will test our gates.

The Enemy Will Test Your Gates

The enemy, in fact, constantly tests our gates. If we are a sleeping gatekeeper or just not alert, they can surprise us and gain the advantage over us. When we do our jobs well, the enemy flees or retreats. If we are asleep at the wheel, they get bolder. If we are so unaware that we don’t discern them, they keep getting bolder until we no longer even see them as a threat anymore.

They will take whatever you don’t step in and tell them they cannot have. Sometimes they will take advantage of you when you are weak or already stressed. That is common. Watch yourself and simply step in when you recognize it.

The idea here is to recognize it. Recognizing it is such a big topic in itself but, please know that it may simply be something like recognizing wrong thoughts in your mind that aren’t in alignment with God’s Word. They become bolder and, I dare say, stronger, as you agree with those thoughts. Pay attention warriors. We all must pay attention and be watchful and alert for the other lion seeking opportunity to devour us. (1 Peter 5:8)

Examples of Gates or Access Points (Portals) of the Spiritual Realm

  1. ‘You’ gate- Believe it or not, you have several gates. It will make sense when I mention them. What you see, hear, dream, speak, your thoughts/beliefs are extremely important. What enters there (that you allow) or take captive there can determine who you are. It also determines a lot about how you are used by God. We must pay attention to these gates. They are the most basic.

  2. . Family gate– You belong to a family. At the most basic level, you can see issues that crop up with family members, successes, challenges, hurts, and struggles. This could also be past issues that were passed down to you. This is another subject entirely, but handling what you see now is a first step. Tell family members about Jesus and ensure their salvation. Do what you can, and then give them to God. Pay attention to those family issues. Pay attention to what your children watch, play, read, and take in. They can signal trouble and even more examples of enemies at the gates of your family. God may be alerting you. You are the intercessor. Take action for those you love!

  3. Church gate–As God’s people, it is a blessed thing that we belong to a local church. Being a spectator only is not the position we need to be in the Church either. We will engage with other families and with other issues in those families as well as needs. Pay attention to problems that arise in your church. Financial lack, power struggles, division, and issues with constant hurt and stagnation can also signal enemies at the gate. Take your stand.

  4. Community gate– We have a responsibility to care for our communities in many ways, but at the very least to make sure the enemy does not advance against it. As Christians, we must share the Gospel with those who need it. If a community has enemies at the gate, it cannot shine as a beacon of light that it should, and the Gospel cannot proliferate freely. Injustices, violence, hate, crime, widespread poverty are some indicators that enemies are at the gate of a community.

  5. National gate– The national gate is somewhat different. The gates cannot be completely shut because we need things at the outside level to survive. If we close ourselves off completely, we may run out of things and subsequently die, even if we conquered the enemies at the gate. So there is this responsibility to discern, and act if necessary at a national level. Pray for leaders, vote, and lift your voice against wrongdoing. If you aren’t involved here, you will have to suffer with injustices in your communities later. All because action wasn’t taken at the national level. We all understand that potential issues are much easier to deal with as we take notice of them from afar, count the cost, and take action.

The Lord Needs His Warrior Bride as Gatekeeper in the Spirit to Rise Up

The Lord Needs His Warrior Bride as Gatekeeper in the Spirit to Rise Up

At any gate, there are monitors. These monitors determine who or what gets in or gets by. They are critical to the security of a city, community, nation, or an individual, and they determine who has access to what or whom inside that place. God is on the move right now, looking for gatekeepers and watchmen that will take positions at the gates.

These gates will close for what needs to stay out, per the gatekeeper, and open for the King of Glory to come in! Let’s be looking for our King of Glory! He might just show up at your gate one day!! (See part 1 of this Prophetic Word. It speaks more of the King of Glory coming through us as the living gateways!)

I have given you some practical ways that anyone can take action at a gate. As His Church, we all have this responsibility. However, there is also more from a spiritual perspective that can happen at the gates that may slide by those less discerning. Those with certain gifts have a responsibility to help man the gates, but they alone are simply not enough.

God’s looking for men and women to take up these positions at the gates from many levels so do not be tempted to disqualify yourself because God has already qualified you, as His Church, for this task.

Quickly, let’s address the many duties of these Gatekeepers. They serve in many capacities. See if you see yourself serving in one or more of these areas already. You probably already are! You may be manning gates and you weren’t even truly aware of it.

Duties of the Gatekeepers

  1. Gatekeepers watch for the enemy. Similar to watchmen on the walls, gatekeepers watch. Watchmen are at the tower watching for the enemy, gatekeepers are at the gate. Watchmen will sound the alarm, while gatekeepers take action with the spiritual weapons given them. They have the authority to let in or keep out; bind and restrict, loose or call forth.

  2. Gatekeepers are Intercessors– As protectors and defenders, they stand in the gap when they see an issue and intercede for what they see and what God calls them to intercede for. This is warfare in its finest form. It is being a change agent in their society, churches, communities, and individual lives. God thinks highly of His intercessors.

  3. Gatekeepers are Ministers of the Lord-They defend the truth of the Word of God, speak the Gospel to others, and protect the sanctity of the Holy places where God operates. They are full of godly wisdom and know the scriptures. They love to worship and are bold to speak out against sin in the Church.

  4. Gatekeepers are Instructors at Heart-They instruct the Lord’s people and have keys to help them stay focused in godly ways or precepts. They care for others by guiding them to stay true to their devotion to God.

  5. Gatekeepers Are Responsible to Guard God’s Secrets– God shares secrets with those that He knows he can trust with them. Gatekeepers know this and are guardians of those secrets keeping them or releasing them when necessary. They are caretakers of secrets for God and those they intercede for.

  6. Gatekeepers Have Authority to Open or Close Gates– We know that according the Word, Elijah was a gatekeeper. (James 5:17-18) Jesus gave those keys of authority to the Church to bind and loose. (Matthew 16:19) We have the authority, but we just need to operate in it! Remember, spiritual senses must be exercised in order to excel in them. Coupled with use, faith, and God confidence, we can too!

  7. Gatekeepers Keep Watch for the Lord’s Return– Gatekeepers hearts are focused on the Word of God and their King. All the looking for the enemy and not the for the One they serve would be unthinkable. To one day look up and see the King at their gate would be Heaven for them. They are looking for the signs and they are preparing for the glorious appearing of our Lord. Gatekeepers prepare for eternity. (Mark 13:34)

Conclusion

Gatekeepers can be anyone in the body of Christ who hold true to these qualities. It could be someone you don’t even expect. They are vigilant, watchful, and care about the Kingdom advancement in the earth. How are you training yourself in battle? How can you serve the gates entrusted to you?

These are just some of the areas that the Warrior Bride as Gatekeeper in the Spirit can function. Be sure you know this: Our God is a rewarder of the diligent. He’s good! According to Ephesians 3:20 it is more than we can think, ask or imagine!

Mighty warriors, arise! Man your gates defending and taking ground for the Kingdom! He is counting on the Warrior Bride! You have nothing to lose! Our King of Glory is coming soon, and He has His reward with Him!
